School sport, tennis and gymnastics; they have one thing in common- whenever it comes to speed, precision and those small pivotal moments, the right light is essential for athletes, referees and spectators. Good light is not a matter of taste, it can be measured objectively and harshly based on different quality criteria. The following rule of thumb applies for sports lighting: the faster the sport and the smaller the sports equipment used, the more light is needed horizontal and especially also vertical illuminance is essential for spatial perception. What’s more, high uniformity and minimal glare are a must for sports types requiring above-head vision. Sport is more than simply a competition for top performances, goals and victories, and also more than a spare time activity. Sport is emotion, in good times and bad times and that‘s true for the big events as well as small. And therefore, the right healthy light is crucial for athletes, referees, spectators and cameras. It‘s about ideal conditions for competitions, for visibility and last but not least safety and comfort for everyone on the pitch.
